Adsense Makes Me No Money
Submitted by Gary on Fri, 02/15/2008 - 16:19.Google Adsense is perhaps the mainstay of advertising on the Internet but frankly, I don't really know why. Yes - its convenient and its easy to use but it barely makes me any money at all.
Ah - I hear you say - that's because I am doing something wrong. Well, I have been using it for 6-years across all of my sites and I have tried everything. Different ad colors, sizes, locations, ad types... you name it, I have done it.
This site hasn't been around for a long time and gets some traffic - nothing to get excited about - but it does get some. Google Adsense revenues - $0.00 to date! Not a single click.
Another site I own that gets a lot of traffic is is a sort of humor and rant blog and has made maybe $10 this last two months on Google Adsense - again, very few clicks at all.
So, I wonder if Google Adsense isn't just all too pervasive these days and everyone has become very used to it to the point it's largely ignored?
Before I say a big YES to that thought - I do co-own another site. It gets 5000+ unique visitors per month and it is very niche - very specialist. It has barely any ads on it at all since we make lots of money selling products at the site but - it makes about $250 per month in Google ads and has a very high click through rate.
To what can I attribute this? Focus.
The more focused a site the better Google is at targeting meaningful ads to the the site. The more meaningful the ads to the visitor, the more they will feel inclined to click through the ads.....
There is a valuable lesson there - focus, target audience and quality posting = placement of more meaningful ads = better revenues.
I'm beginning to think I will drop Google adsense altogether from some of my websites and try something else but for my niche sites - it stays!
